NOTE 1: The muzzle threads on our 556N/223R barrels are 5/8-24 and NOT the standard 1/2-28 threads common to this caliber. Why is this? First, we do this for better accuracy. Thin walls at the muzzle can, over time, bell out — on a microscopic level — like the end of a trumpet, reducing accuracy because the bullet can yaw at the last moment as it leaves the barrel. The 1/2-28 specification was originally designed for the M16's pencil barrel that was only .570 thick in the section between the gas block and the muzzle and thus required threading of .500. This is a compromise and is not ideal. When not using a pencil barrel, it is better to have more metal at the muzzle mouth to prevent belling and thus maintain accuracy, and this is what we do. (Our barrel diameter is .625 near the muzzle.) The second advantage to this is that one can use one size of 5/8-24 muzzle devices for all barrels. (Any muzzle device worth having is also available in 5/8-24.) Further, one can minimize the total cost of suppressor ownership by swapping a quality suppressor from barrel to barrel with one size threading.
NOTE 2: The National Firearms Act regulates the configurations of some firearms assembled with barrels under 16” long. Know the NFA laws in your state before purchasing this item.
